Abstract

Myocardial infarction is a serious illness that affects the life of individual and his or her family members. The support provided by other people has shown improvement in the ability to cope with stress and thus to promote the managing of the illness. Assisting patients to overcome the symptoms involves helping them to understand the experience and to provide relaxation or cognitive behavioral approaches to cope with the feelings of anxiety in real life situations. The present study was conducted to compare the coping methods among post myocardial infarction patients with therapeutic drug regimen, PTCA, CABG in the selected cardiac OPDs of Indore. Through purposive sampling technique a total of 60 samples (20 samples in each group) were selected from the selected population. Consent for the participation was taken from the participants and adapted jalowiec coping scale tool was administered to each sample. Finding of the study revealed that majority of the samples were having average coping skills among all the groups i.e. in Group –I 13 (65%) (Therapeutic drug regimen), Group- II 16 (80%), (PTCA patients) Group –III 17 (85%) (CABG patients) and that the most effective coping was found in drug regimen patients i.e. 74.55. There is a significant difference (ANOVA (f value) 29.785) among the coping methods among group 1, group 2 & group 3 at the level of p ≤ 0.05.
